A large part of Bulgaria’s population still lives in communist-era building “blocks”. Many people who had houses had to exchange them for a unit in the blocks which were built on the site where their house used to be. There is a feeling of community and belonging among the block dwellers. Make your way through the entrance with the broken windows and discover for yourself.

Elena is a small vilage up the mountain from Veliko Turnovo, on the way through the Stara Planina down to Stara Zagora and Plovdiv. This photo was taken by Krassiu. Check my own picture galleries here.
